5 Easy Business Productivity Tips you Need to Know – Part III

Last MinuteWe all know where the gym is, but it’s actually getting there and doing the exercises which is the challenge.  Most of us know how to be productive, but implementing the techniques can be difficult with all the other things going on in life.  That’s where these last five productivity tips help. They address the high performance mindset.

Productive people tend to think differently in order to get more accomplished.  They take control of their thoughts and focus on the right things to get the maximum output for the minimum input.  Here are five of the best mindset ideas:

Think in hours (or minutes), not days or weeks:  Highly productive people think in terms of minutes or hours, not days.  I remember when of my clients had issues with her website and her developer said he needed a week to fix it. What? Why not quote a day or even 4 hours?  And why do people default to one hour meetings instead of 12 minute meetings? Work expands to fill the available time, so do the opposite – compress your time so you the work gets done sooner.  It’s amazing how much time you can gain by thinking and acting in minutes.

Set Yourself up for Success: Put the productivity odds in your favor by not sabotaging your success.  This is accomplished by removing items that you know will distract you from your main focus.  For example, if you constantly check your phone for texts, move your phone somewhere else so it’s not tempting you.  Just look at the phone on scheduled breaks.  If you get distracted by working from home with kids or chores, spend a few hours at a library where it’s quiet.  It’s easy to find creative ways to stay on task without distractions. In my upcoming Denver Ultimate Business Boot Camp Part II, we cover systems and teams that set you up for success seamlessly.  READ MORE HERE.

Designate a quit time:  Set an end time for your day, every day.  It can be so easy to keep working into the evening and night hours – especially at the start of a company.  I’ve done this myself and it’s so tempting to keep pushing through.  However, there is the law of diminishing returns after a while, not to mention the toll this takes on home life and friends.  Balance is a huge part of being a high performer and this starts with creating a quit time.

Learn to Say No:  It’s critical to pick and choose how you spend your time, energy, and money.  If it’s not a Hell Yes, it’s a Hell No.  Saying Yes when you don’t really want to do something is not a good use of your resources or mindset.  One tip is to plan what you will say when you know someone is going to ask you for something that you don’t want or can’t do.  That way you are a little prepared so you aren’t caught off guard and say yes by default.  I just wrote a guest post on the power of saying No for Trisha Trixie (http://bit.ly/1WbYBSd) that highlights four more ways to say no without burning bridges.

Set routines:  Good habits and routines help you stay even more productive when distractions kick in.  Variety is great, but it’s the routine that keep us grounded.  Build your routines around health, family, friends, work, and more.  When life gets busy or surprises appear, fall back on your routines to gain control.  They always work.

These are some mindset techniques that highly productive people do consistently every day.  Next week I share proven actions you can take to grow your business so you have even more success – fast!
