Systems of Organization: Your #1 Bottom-Line Booster

Lack Of Organization Can Kill You And Your Business

Organization is a key player in your personal and business life. You can spend an entire day running around like a headless chicken and at the end of the day wind up accomplishing nothing but a headache. If you want your life to run like clockwork and your bottom line to exceed your goals, the first step is to get your ducks in a row through organization.

If you work or live in a cluttered space it can have an effect on your emotional and physical well being. The latest U.S. Stress Statistics research shows that 77% of people suffer physical problems as a result of stress. Stress can be caused by several factors: Not being able to find a contract for a client, feeling like you don’t have enough time to complete a project, and/or not having enough “me” or family time.

Our goal at Gain Advantages is to help you become more productive in life and business with ways you can obtain the ultimate work-life balance you desire. This series of articles will have helpful ideas for you to incorporate into your professional and personal life.

Where to Begin: The Top Four Areas

To begin, choose just one of the areas below.  Otherwise, you run the risk of becoming overwhelmed and give up altogether.

Here are a Few Areas to Get Organized:

  1. Your Time
  2. Your Space
  3. Your Information
  4. Your Activities

Your Time

There are so many organization apps available today to help you get organized with everything in your life. Depending on your operating system, there are several choices for calendars and to-do lists you can download.

A great system used by Gain Advantages is simply setting your phone timer for 50 minutes.  Stay on task for that full duration.  Once the buzzer sounds, take a mandatory 10 minute break to stretch, hydrate, or chat with a friend.  Even if you are 'in the zone', the short break will make you even more productive when you get back on task.

Your Space

Studies have shown how a messy workspace can decrease your productivity. Better organization at your desk can easily solve this problem. Here are a few suggestions to set up your work area so that it helps you get more done:

  • Make it a goal to start and end your day with a clear desk. This actually make you feel good!
  • Take a day once a quarter to purge.  Go through all of your paperwork and either trash it or scan it digitally.
  • Scan or discard old business cards hoarded over the years when you don't remember or need the company.
  • Hire a company to help you de-clutter your space.
  • Visit Pinterest for some DIY organizing tips.
  • Read a book on home office Feng Shui.
