How and Where to Publish Your Content

Guest Post by Monica Miller

Great, you now know how to find content to fill your calendar and speak to your audience. Now, you might be wondering, “Where will it be distributed?”

Will it be on your blog? Your social media accounts? Your YouTube channel? A guest blog post?

There are so many ways to share, distribute, and touch your audience, it’s hard to know where to begin or which platform is best for you to use.

When I am coaching my own clients, I always tell them the primary medium that you want to post most often at is the medium you enjoy creating.

For example, I enjoy writing, so I like writing blogs, newsletters, and social media content. Some of you may enjoy getting in front of a camera and conducting your content on Facebook Live, YouTube, Periscope, or another video medium.

However, as an small business owner with an audience who enjoys diversity, you have to include a bit of all mediums. I always include a Facebook Live in my content because I know people digest video better than a blog.

Since this article is more about blogging, I always encourage to post on your blog. But if you love video, you can always embed a YouTube video or a podcast episode into a blog post.

When to Publish Your Content

Next, you’ll need to answer the third and final question for your content calendar, “When will your content be published?”

Will it be daily? Every other day? Bi-weekly? Weekly?

There is no right or wrong answer here. It is completely up to you and your budget/bandwidth/time.  Now that you’ve answered these important questions, you are ready to create your content calendar!

Free Content Calendar Templates

When filling out your content calendar, it can be really helpful to have an editorial calendar template that is designed for bloggers and publishers. Here are a few of my favorite free content calendar templates you can download and use to create your own content marketing plan.

1) Download Monica Writes Ultimate Content Calendar

2) CoSchedule’s Free Editorial Calendar

3) Content Market Institute Free Content Calendar

There are many more out there, but these are ones to get you started with. Now that you have your template, let’s take a look at a few content calendar examples.

Content Calendar Examples

I personally publish a blog post every Monday, and I send out an email newsletter to my subscribers about my most recent blog post every Tuesday. I publish to my social media accounts multiple times daily as well using social media schedules like Hootsuite. I also make room in my content calendar for guest posting, writing articles for magazines, lead magnet creation, product launches, creating email sequences and much more.

So here’s a content calendar example that I might use for the month of January.

As you can see, you will likely have different forms of content being distributed on various platforms (including your own blog) at different times and on different schedules. You can include as much or as little content as you wish on your content calendar to be scheduled out. Some content to be scheduled would be:

  • Blog
  • Social Media
  • Newsletter
  • Video
  • Sharing Promos (podcasts, guest posts, events, etc)
  • Quotes
  • Articles
  • An inside look into your life

All of this should be included on your content calendar so you know when and where to post consistently.
